Title:  Defect Analysis Engineering Co-op

QuantumScape developed the industry’s first anode-less cell design, which delivers high energy density while lowering material costs and simplifying manufacturing. Our innovative battery cell technology can store energy more efficiently and reliably than today’s lithium-ion batteries.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support our R&D team. As a team member, you will help identify performance-limiting defect modes in incoming cell components and define specifications to further improve our product performance and reliability. This position is an exciting multi-functional role that sits at the intersection of materials, manufacturing, and data science! 

Title: Defect Analysis Engineering Co-op

Location: Onsite- San Jose, CA

Responsibilities 

• Investigate failure-causing defect modes using physical characterization including VK, microCT, and FIB.  

• Characterize and monitor defect modes across process conditions as new conditions are introduced 

• Collaborate with battery scientists and engineers to carry out cutting-edge experiments.   

• Communicate results with the broader team in clear, concise reports 

Experience & Education: 

• Working towards a BS in materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field 

• Experience conducting experiments in a laboratory setting 

• You have hands-on experience in a wet chemistry laboratory environment 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

Skills & Abilities: 

• You are self-motivated and have a track record of learning new skills and techniques, and applying those to achieve results 

• You thrive in a fast-paced environment, and adapt quickly to changes 

• You are a strong communicator and enjoy working on a team to tackle complex challenges

Compensation: This is an hourly position with an hourly rate of $26-$30 per hour based on a candidates background and experience
