Title:  Director of Cell Test Methods & Analytics

Date:  Sep 30, 2025
Location:

CA, US

Work Location Type:  On-site
Company:  QuantumScape Corporation
Description:

QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

About the Role: QuantumScape is hiring a Director of Cell Test Methods and Analytics to design and scale battery cell screening methodologies that bridge development and manufacturing to ensure our lithium-metal batteries meet the highest standards of reliability, safety, and yield.

This role focuses on standardizing, automating, and optimizing test methods so that every development and production cell is evaluated through robust, data-driven screens. By developing better cell screens, you will prevent reliability risks and accelerate qualifications of new designs, materials, and processes.

Why Join Us: At QuantumScape, you will help establish the Cell Test Methods and Analytics function for lithium-metal batteries, shaping how new cells are screened and qualified for reliability and yield. Your work will directly influence how fast we can bring breakthrough technology from development to production and ensure that our product consistently meets the highest standards for performance and safety.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of test engineers and data scientists to execute screening strategies at scale
  • Develop and validate advanced cell screens that detect reliability risks and accelerate product qualification.
  • Architect product test methods that define test coverage, mitigates test escape risks, and adapt to evolving product and process needs.
  • Establish automated test workflows and data pipelines to handle large-scale test data with high accuracy, repeatability, and throughput.
  • Define screening specifications and adaptive test limits that balance reliability risk, yield, and efficiency.
  • Correlate upstream process and metrology data with downstream reliability outcomes to continuously improve screening strategies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Reliability, Manufacturing, Metrology, and Failure Analysis teams to align CTQs (Critical To Quality) and integrate them into screening flows.
  • Apply statistical models and reliability analysis (e.g., Weibull, competing risk, hazard estimation) to quantify risk and optimize test design.
  • Deliver clear, actionable feedback to development and manufacturing teams through reports, dashboards, and reviews.
  • Coordinate test strategies across multiple development teams

Skills You’ll Need:

  • PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Statistics, or related field with 8+ years (PhD) / 10+ years (MS) of relevant industry experience.
  • Proven experience in product test engineering, reliability screening, or yield management.
  • Strong background in data mining, statistical modeling, DOE, and reliability analysis.
  • Proficiency in data mining and visualization tools with strong preference for SQL, BigQuery, python, and JMP. Demonstrated ability to design scalable test flows and infrastructure that integrate with high-volume operations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to align cross-functional stakeholders.

Nice to have:

  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing and characterization of secondary lithium-metal or lithium-ion battery cells.
  • Familiarity with inline process data integration and data-driven screening approaches.
  • Track record of automation and methods building in development or production environments.

ONSITE: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position.  As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.
