What we need: We are looking for a practical, collaborative EHSS Engineer who can help strengthen safety, environmental, sustainability, and training programs in a fast-paced R&D and manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across departments to translate requirements into safe, compliant daily operations. Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, personal integrity, sound organization, and a proactive approach to solving problems, driving corrective actions, supporting employees, and helping maintain a clean, safe, healthy, and compliant workplace.

 

What You’ll do:

 

  • Support the maintenance of EHSS programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
  • Participate in or lead regular area inspections, document corrective actions, and track to closure.
  • Coordinate and/or deliver EHSS training.
  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure safety and compliance objectives are met and the workplace remains clean, safe, and healthy.
  • Coordinate vendors to perform onsite tasks.
  • Monitor hazardous waste handling and storage. 
  • Take effective steps to ensure that all required records are prepared and maintained. 
  • Conduct and document regular inspections of safety equipment.  Restock safety supplies as needed.
  • May participate in regulatory inspections or assist in investigation and preparation of reports on injuries.
  • Support development and completion of environmental/sustainability metrics.
  • Actively participate in Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee activities.
  • Communicate task completion status both verbally and in writing.

 

Skills You’ll Need:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in chemistry, engineering, or related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills with all levels of personnel.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to work under general supervision.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Must demonstrate personal integrity and high ethical standards.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-changing environment with Facilities, Hardware, and R&D leaders, and staffing at all levels.
  • Approach complex problems by actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources, consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems, and mastering unfamiliar information, tasks, and situations quickly and effectively.

 

Nice to have:

  • Experience working within battery or automotive operations and/or manufacturing.
  • Experience managing hazardous waste
  • Strong people skills.
  • Experience with environmental audits, ISO 14000, TSCA compliance, IATA, BAAQMD compliance, waste minimization, sustainability

 

Physical requirements:

  • Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • Reaching and twisting motions with hands
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • May work with airtight isolation chambers and/or wear neoprene or vinyl gloves for 15-30% of the time. May frequently reach above shoulder heights and below the waist. May be required to use hand or power tools. Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, lift up to 30 pounds, push and extend arms.

 

 

ONSITE: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position.  As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration. 

 

Compensation & Benefits: Expected salary range for this role is from $79,100 to $102,800, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other benefits.
