Title: Facilities Engineering Intern

The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.
We are seeking a motivated intern to join our facility engineering team. You will work on a small team to assist with the central utility plant monitoring, troubleshooting and procedure development. The position requires a background in mechanical system concepts, as well as the interpersonal skills to engage and assist technicians and engineers within QuantumScape.
This internship will be based onsite at our San Jose, CA offices
What you will do:
- Work with engineers, process owners and technicians to develop and deploy facility equipment standards and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with the in-house engineers to troubleshoot equipment and perform root cause analysis for failures.
- Communicate progress to the larger team in regular updates and track project status and risk.
- Lead time-bound projects for the upgrade or optimization of mechanical systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understand technical drawings and facility equipment concepts.
- Ability to read and understand a P&ID / MEP drawing / technical diagram to learn how a system functions and to assist with project engineering tasks.
- Conceptual understanding of HVAC, plumbing, process piping, electrical wiring, energy/mass transfer is a plus.
- Ability to learn from and translate a technical diagram to field equipment, piping, tubing, ducting, conduit, valves, and instrumentation
- Any familiarity with process layout and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD), etc. for reviewing and assisting in the preparation of technical drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of basic concepts for control logic, how to read a controls diagram, with a willingness to learn and apply design concepts to practical problem solving.
- Experience that would be considered an asset: Participation in hands-on laboratory projects, team-based engineering projects or competitions to demonstrate an ability to apply engineering principles in practical settings is a plus+.
- Previous work, internship, or co-op experience in a consequential / medium-to-fast-paced environment is preferred but not required.
- Emphasis on any roles that involved ongoing coordination, especially with multiple disciplines, vendors, or contractors
Minimum Requirements:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Coursework or projects related to process engineering, HVAC systems, control systems, plant operations, etc. are advantageous.
Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role has a hourly pay rate range of $32 -$33/hr.
