About the team: To enable QuantumScape’s mission of revolutionizing energy storage by delivering scalable, high-performance ceramic electrolyte processes that meet the demands of next-generation solid-state batteries.
- Process Development: Innovate and refine heat treatment protocols for ceramic electrolyte synthesis.
- Scale-Up: Transition lab-scale processes to pilot and production-scale systems.
- Yield & Quality Optimization: Improve throughput, reduce defects, and ensure material consistency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Materials R&D, Equipment Engineering, and Manufacturing Ops.
What we need: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Process Engineer with a strong background in continuous manufacturing processes to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in improving product yield, reducing defects, and enhancing overall process stability and product quality. This role requires a deep understanding of critical process variables, metrology systems, and statistical analysis tools to drive data-informed decisions.
What You’ll do:
- Analyze and optimize continuous manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and product quality.
- Identify and reduce defect rates through root cause analysis and process improvements.
- Monitor and control critical process variables to ensure consistent product performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support yield improvement initiatives.
- Utilize metrology systems to gather and interpret data related to product defects.
- Conduct statistical analysis using tools such as JMP and Minitab to identify trends and correlations.
- Develop and implement process control strategies to maintain high-quality standards.
- Support new product introductions and process validation activities.
- Document and present findings, recommendations, and action plans to stakeholders.
Skills You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in process engineering within a continuous manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of product quality metrics and defect reduction methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with metrology systems and data interpretation.
- Proficiency in JMP, Minitab, or similar statistical analysis software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Nice to have:
- Experience in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or advanced materials industries.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
Physical requirements:
- Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Reaching and twisting motions with hands
- Lifting up to 25 lbs.
ONSITE: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.
Compensation & Benefits: Expected salary range for this role is from $ 117,500 to $140,700, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other benefits.
