QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.

We are seeking a Process Engineer with strong data analysis skills and some program management experience to join our Solid-State Cell Manufacturing team. This is a hands-on, floor-embedded role where you will own key manufacturing processes, working closely with operators, technicians, and engineers to maintain stable, high-throughput production.

Using data as a primary tool, you will monitor process performance in real time, identify inefficiencies, and lead structured problem-solving efforts. Additionally, you will play a vital role in managing cross-functional initiatives, change control, and operational planning, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective communication across teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a process owner on the manufacturing floor, working side-by-side with operators, technicians, and engineers to support stable, high-throughput production.
  • Monitor process performance in real time, respond quickly to abnormalities, and lead efforts to contain and correct issues.
  • Use production data to identify process inefficiencies, yield loss, and quality trends; implement engineering controls and continuous improvement plans.
  • Develop and maintain SPC charts, control plans, and other tools to monitor KPIs and maintain process health.
  • Support and lead structured root cause investigations (RCAs) and coordinate corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Build dashboards, tools, and reports that empower operators and engineers to make faster, more informed decisions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, R&D, Automation, and Supply Chain teams on process qualifications, scaling efforts, technology transfers, and operational improvements.
  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting guides, and process documentation.
  • Act as a program manager for operational initiatives, coordinating cross-functional activities, managing change control processes, and driving alignment on process and equipment updates.
  • Provide structured feedback and status updates to internal teams and external partners, including vendors and integrators.
  • Plan and communicate next steps for process improvements, issue mitigation, and scaling activities, ensuring production goals remain the top priority.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree & 10+ years of related experience (or 7+ years and Master’s degree) with an educational focus in Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of hands-on process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, JMP, or equivalent.
  • Experience managing or supporting cross-functional programs or projects, including change control and operational planning.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment, spending significant time on the floor.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with MES systems, SPC tools, or manufacturing data platforms.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or DOE methodologies.
  • Exposure to high-volume manufacturing such as batteries, semiconductors, or electronics.
  • Knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools.
  • Having experiences and understanding on lithium/lithium-ion batteries and electrochemical knowledge.

Work Environment:

  • Spent in active production areas, working directly with operators and live processes.
  • Use of PPE and interaction with machinery, tools, and process materials required.
  • Flexibility for shift work or off-hours support as production demands.

Why Join Us:

  • Be at the forefront of solid-state battery manufacturing innovation.
  • Own and improve critical manufacturing processes using both technical and program management skills.
  • Work collaboratively with a passionate team in a dynamic, fast-growing industry.
  • Make a tangible impact on next-generation energy technology.
