We’re on a mission to electrify transportation by building the next generation of energy storage technology—and we want you to be part of it. As a Software Engineer, Associate Member of Techincal Staff you’ll contribute to the development of automated image analysis pipelines, data services, and production APIs that support our cutting-edge battery R&D and manufacturing operations. In this role, you’ll work on Python-based workflows, a Flask-based HTTP API, and SQL-backed systems that transform raw image and sensor data into actionable insights. You’ll gain hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, image processing, and debugging production systems—all while being supported by a collaborative and experienced team. This position directly supports the development of QuantumScape’s solid-state lithium-metal batteries. These batteries are designed to deliver faster charging, greater energy density, and enhanced safety—key innovations that help accelerate the global shift to a cleaner, low-carbon future.
What You’ll Do:
- Help build and maintain image processing and data pipelines using Python and Prefect.
- Contribute to a Flask-based HTTP API that serves processed image data and metadata.
- Assist with writing and maintaining SQL stored procedures in both MSSQL and PostgreSQL.
- Learn to use logs and monitoring tools to troubleshoot issues, resolve tickets, and squash bugs in production systems.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to understand analysis needs and implement software solutions.
- Contribute to shared Python packages and utilities for image analysis and cloud integration.
- Participate in code reviews, write documentation, and learn best practices for testing and maintainability.
Skills You'll Need:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 0–2 years of experience in software development (internships, school projects, or personal projects count!).
- Familiarity with Python and an interest in image processing, APIs, or data engineering.
- Exposure to SQL and an eagerness to learn more about stored procedures and database design.
- Interest in cloud technologies (e.g., Google Cloud Platform) and workflow tools like Prefect or Airflow.
- A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn in a team environment.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Flask or other web frameworks.
- Familiarity with Git and version control workflows.
- Exposure to containerization (e.g., Docker).
- Experience working with logs, monitoring tools, or debugging production systems.
- Interest in scientific computing, machine learning, or manufacturing environments.
Onsite:
This position requires us to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.
Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role has a range of $104,800to $136,200, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other exciting perks.
