Title:  Sr. Mechanical Packaging Engineer

QuantumScape developed the industry’s first anode-less cell design, which delivers high energy density while lowering material costs and simplifying manufacturing. Our innovative battery cell technology can store energy more efficiently and reliably than today’s lithium-ion batteries.

Role Description:

We are seeking a proficient and experienced Mechanical Engineer specializing in Lithium-Ion Battery Packaging and Design Engineering to join our innovative team. The selected candidate will be responsible for the mechanical design, packaging, and optimization of lithium-ion battery systems.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the mechanical design and packaging of lithium-ion battery systems, focusing on optimizing performance, safety, and reliability.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate battery systems into various applications, ensuring design compatibility and efficiency.

• Perform feasibility studies and design analysis to enhance battery system performance and structural integrity.

• Utilize CAD software and simulation tools to conduct stress analysis, thermal management, and packaging optimization.

• Provide technical guidance and support for continuous improvement in battery system design and manufacturing processes.

• Conduct testing, validation, and troubleshooting to address mechanical challenges in battery system design.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 5 years of experience OR Master’s degree and 3+ years of related experience; OR Ph.D.

• Hands-on experimental experience with polymer materials

• Experience with polymer characterization

• Proficiency in CAD software for design and analysis (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).

• Comprehensive knowledge of lithium-ion battery cell technology, packaging, thermal management, and stress analysis.

• Strong problem-solving abilities with a meticulous focus on quality and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a multicultural setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on battery technology preferred.

This position is required to perform these above essential duties and responsibilities onsite at our QS offices.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role has a salary range of $123,700 - $198,000, and a salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan.
