Title: Ceramics Processing Specialist (Director or Senior Director)

Location: San Jose, CA

 

You are an outstanding engineer or scientist with deep empirical and hands-on practice in ceramic process engineering. You are quantitative and thoughtful; you are a good communicator and an extraordinary teammate. You seek out challenges and learning opportunities.

 

Your responsibility will be to provide experience in ceramic processing and to collaborate with our partners to scale-up manufacturing of ceramics. You have >16 years of practical, applied knowledge with ceramic processing techniques.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Bring considerable ceramics process engineering experience to suggest solutions to optimize a process, from materials to process to equipment

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced technical degree (Master’s or Phd) with 16+ years of experience and world-class expertise in technical ceramics.
  • Knowledge and experience in safe chemical handling and laboratory practices
  • Experience in scaling ceramics manufacturing
  • Innovative outlook, creative thinking

 

Skills & Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of ceramic processing especially powder processing, ceramic formulation development, slip development, ceramic tape casting and coating, and sintering
  • Proven ability to understand, characterize and drive process development
  • Chemical intuition for formulation and compositions
  • Deep knowledge of statistical methods for process improvement and control
  • Ability to apply quality engineering tools and methods to address quality problems
  • Capable of working independently and driving projects to completion
  • Ability to communicate clearly and candidly; a strong affinity for teamwork
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, technically exciting environment and quickly adapt to changes
  • References that can attest to your resourcefulness, curiosity, creativity, and integrity.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in ceramic materials and processing of thin ceramic films; ceramic green forming experience especially slot-die or other slurry-based coating methods
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, scripting, querying. Specifically, DOEs, statistical power analysis, confidence intervals, normality testing, ANOVA, curve fitting, classification and regression.
  • Familiarity with inspection techniques and in-line quality monitoring systems
  • Material properties and characterization
  • Experience in solid electrolyte or energy materials
  • Your passion for making an impact on the world's energy challenges

 

ONSITE: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position.  As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration. 

 

Compensation & Benefits: Expected salary range for this role is from $193,200 to $309,200, and the final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other benefits.
