What we need: The Sr. Director Operation Strategy translates strategy into results. This leader designs and runs the company’s operating rhythm, drives cross functional programs, and ensures decisions are ‑data driven, timely, and ‑well communicated. They partner closely with the executive team and People & Culture to strengthen organizational effectiveness, build ‑hightrust‑ routines, and deliver outcomes with urgency.

 

What You’ll Deliver in the First 12 Months:

 

  • A crisp operating cadence: Quarterly/Monthly Business Reviews (QBR/MBR), Staff meetings, decision logs, Board of Directors meeting preparation, and pre-read‑ standards that lift executive throughput and reduce decision cycle time.
  • Strategy → execution: Annual planning and OKRs translated into funded initiatives with clear owners, interlocks, and risks; portfolio dashboards visible to ELT.
  • Program results: Successful delivery of 3–5 cross functional‑ initiatives (e.g., operations org redesign, cost reductions, long term manufacturing plans and associated customer communication, quality and execution improvements) with measurable business impact.
  • Data & insights: Company KPI taxonomy; automated executive dashboards; variance and scenario analyses that guide priority calls.
  • Org effectiveness: Leadership rituals, communications, and feedback mechanisms that raise accountability and engagement; close partnership with People & Culture.

 

 

What you’ll do:

 

Strategy & Planning

  • Facilitate annual and quarterly strategic planning; translate goals into OKRs, initiatives, and budgets with Finance and functional leaders.
  • Maintain an enterprise portfolio view—dependencies, milestones, risks, and capacity—so the ELT can reallocate fast.

Operating Rhythm & Governance

  • Design and run the executive operating cadence (QBR/MBR/Staff/AllHands), including agendas, pre‑reads, decision logs, and follow‑through.
  • Drive issue escalation paths and unblock cross-functional‑ decisions; track and publish commitments.

Program & Portfolio Management

  • Lead complex, cross-‑functional programs (e.g., operations quality, manufacturing scale‑up, process excellence, cost reductions); stand up light‑weight PMO/Business operation routines as needed.
  • Establish playbooks for scope, milestones, RACI, risks, and benefit realization.

Decision Intelligence & Analytics

  • Build KPI taxonomy and executive dashboards; deliver ad-hoc‑ analyses (financial, operational, customer) that inform trade‑offs.
  • Partner with Data/Finance to improve data quality, definitions, and cadence.

Executive Communications

  • Craft executive narratives (strategy updates, board materials, town halls) and ensure message consistency across functions.
  • Prepare the executive for key external/internal engagements with briefs and talking points.

Org Effectiveness & Culture

  • Partner with People & Culture to embed leadership routines, accountability frameworks, and manager development; reinforce a high trust, high‑ performance‑ culture.
  • Support org design and change management for strategic shifts.

Team Leadership

  • Lead a small Business Operation and/or analyst team; hire, coach, and develop talent; foster collaboration across functions.

 

Skills you’ll need:

 

  • 10–15 years in Strategy/Operations leadership (e.g., management consulting plus inhouse‑ Business Operation/PMO), ideally in high growth or technology‑ ‑intensive environments.
  • Proven track record designing operating cadences and delivering cross-functional programs end‑to‑end.
  • Strong financial acumen (budgeting, forecasting, ROI), data literacy (dashboards, KPI design), and executive communication skills.
  • Experience partnering with Manufacturing/Operations and Quality functions is a plus (e.g., incoming quality control, manufacturing quality).

 

Onsite: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position.  As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration. 

 

Compensation & Benefits: Expected salary range for this role is from $220,900 to $309,200, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other benefits.
